أنا من القمر – Jordan Pt 12 – Umm Al Jimal

In Hauran, the Northern desert region of Jordan a few kilometers from the Syrian border there are the ruins of a great black basalt city dating from the 1st Centurary A.D. : Umm al Jimal (Arabic: ام الجمال, “Mother of Camels”) also known as Umm el Jimal or Umm idj Djimal.

It is a rare and wonderous treat to walk alone in silence through the huge site as the late afternoon sun fades to sunset.
Of all the places I visited on my trip to Jordan, the solitude of wandering there for a few hours was one of the most calming and surreal.

Much more information about the site can be found over at the great UMM EL-JIMAL PROJECT website.
