It is a great sadness to announce that Zhao Yizhou one of the artists I filmed for Martin Cooper’s documentary “Traces Of The Soul“, died yesterday.
He was considered by many to be the finest contemporary calligrapher working outside of China.
Since leaving SOAS, where he taught Chinese culture and calligraphy, he created his unique shufa every single day (usually through the night in fact), and was producing great work until he entered hospital a week ago.
A funny and hugely talented man. Condolences to his family.
