Some of my best friends are women – The Kishi Cut

Next up in this dubiously titled series is “The Kishi Cut” or “@Kishakishi” – A gin swilling hard dancing English woman of frankly terrifying intellect, the curly-haired siren that is Miss Sophie Knight.
Now full disclosure, I have a bit of a school boy crush on Miss Knight, I make no secret of it.
Perhaps I should explain?
I am a happily married man but when I meet someone with intellect, fast wit, taste in music and undeniable talent I want to be around them in the vain hope that some of that might rub of on me, improvement by osmosis if you will.
Now if that person is a man, we are all good, but if that person is a woman, especially (and I apologise for this in advance) a foxy lady with a smile that has an effect much like that of headlights on cute little bunny rabbits then often I get a bit of a harmless crush.
It’s very much like the crush I had on my English teacher when I was 12 (with the age difference reversed), innocent and made better by the fact that the very idea of it is so ridiculous.
So, sorry Sophie but I think you are great and I may well bring you an apple next time we meet ;-)
Ok so enough about me.
Sophie Knight is, to paraphrase from her blog about page:-
A British journalist working for a major Japanese newspaper in Tokyo. An L.S.E. graduate who moved to Tokyo in 2008.
I have my English-Irish background to thank for a knack for accents, a deep and unbridled love for black pudding, a healthy dollop of cynicism and a not-so-healthy appetite for gin. I have no idea who to blame for my inability to arrive anywhere on time, ever.
(That last sentence! don’t even get me started;)
She also describes herself on her twitter bio as a Velo-flaneur, aspiring butcher, barefoot runner, linguaphile and pretentious.
The last one rings particularly true, he says sheepishly looking up what “Velo flaneur” means ;-)
Sophie’s blog is full of superbly written and well researched journalism and her twitter feed alternates between very informative, argumentative and downright hilarious.
Sophie, thanks for being intellectually far superior and better informed but never lauding it over me, a conversation with you is always food for thought and a throughly enjoyable “who has the best pop culture reference” competition.
Oh and sorry about the crush , I’ll get over it.
Now you do like apples, don’t you?
Check out her work, you won’t be disappointed.

Oh, this is going end well…
(english as a second language here i come…)
One of the essential improvements age makes of us is a solid reverence for the ignorances of youth. Now stop talking about being old as you are a man that has never forgotten the pleasures found in innocent, youthful idiocies. Like a crush. Oh this made me smile, know the feeling, know where it comes from, exactly the opposite of all you excuse and apologise for in the text. It is wonderfully honest, superbly observed (both of you and Sophie) and speaks of flase laments in that you have not forgotten, though you miss it, is still who exactly you are.
A poet and a friend.

So cute and such a gorgeous photo!
She looks really sad they don’t have her favorite bottle!
A women who is hard drinking, sexy and very smart is a rare find. Any gal holding all those qualities at the same time is worth spending time with and having a few adventures with. They are the kind of women you teach a few things about yourself, even if they are not trying to do so.
